Comprehensive Dentistry
Comprehensive dentistry involves the diagnosis and treatment of general conditions affecting the teeth, gums, and jaw. Dr. Austin takes a comprehensive approach to dentistry because it enables her to catch problems early and utilize more conservative treatment plans. During your first visit at our office, we will discuss any problems we see and also how to correct those problems. We also work hard to educate our patients on how to shift the balance in their mouths to prevent disease from returning in the future. Dr. Austin and her team are also passionate about the connections that research is now showing between oral health and total body health. Certain dental diseases, like periodontal disease, have been found to be associated with diabetes, heart disease, pre-term birth, and many other systemic problems. We work hard to make sure our patients leave with a full understanding of the condition of their mouth and the treatments that may be needed to ensure they have a healthy smile for life!

Periodontal (Gum) Care
According to the American Academy of Periodontology, gum disease is the number one cause of tooth loss in adults over the age of 35. If your gums feel tender, look red and swollen, or bleed every time you floss, you could be at risk for gum disease. Untreated gum disease has been linked to other serious health problems like diabetes, heart disease, pre-term birth, and many more! It’s important to keep your gums healthy with proper home care and biannual (and sometimes more frequent) professional dental cleanings.
Gum disease used to require surgery more often than not. While surgery is still sometimes the best option, we can now treat many cases with less invasive techniques, our state of the art laser therapy, deep cleanings, and medicated rinses.

Nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, is a colorless blend of oxygen and nitrous oxide gases with a pleasant, sweet smell and taste. Inhaling nitrous oxide creates a sense of well-being and relaxation, and it is used effectively to help individuals who experience anxiety or fear about dental treatment feel more at ease. Nitrous oxide increases your pain threshold and, when necessary, makes the administration of anesthetic injections more comfortable. It is also helpful for patients who have a strong gag reflex that interferes with dental treatment.
Advanced Technologies
Digital X-rays & Digital Imaging
Digital x-rays are faster than conventional x-rays, and they are comfortable for you. They also aid us to accurately diagnose your oral health needs. All with less radiation exposure! We employ digital imaging, as well, to show you how fabulous your new and improved smile could look, before treatment even begins. With no chemical processing needed, digital technology helps us do our part to keep the environment safe, too.
